Description
The Great Plains Reservoirs lie within the vastness of the High Plains of southeastern Colorado, a half hour drive north of the Arkansas River. A sense of immense inviolate space pervades the gently rolling land, dominated by skies of unequalled grandeur. Because of its unique shelter and scenery, Neegronda most notable of the five reservoirs, has been an oasis since the early 1900's, when it was filled with precious water through the newly constructed canal system of the Great Plains Water Storage Company. It served a growing and thirsty population of farmers and ranchers not only with water, but as a recreation area and as a good source of game, fish and birds.
